Desoto is a bedroom community located mainly just north of Kansas highway 10 (K10) between Overland Park and Lawrence, KS. Yes, THAT Lawrence! Home of the Jayhawks–Rock, Chalk! Being located near the halfway point between the two areas makes Desoto a popular city for workers needing to commute to either metro area. The Desoto school district has approximately 6,880 students and serves Desoto as well as portions of Shawnee, Lenexa and a little piece of Olathe. Quite alot of students for a small town, but the surrounding area has experienced exceptional growth in the past 10 years or so.
